March Newsletter

Dear families,
Hopefully, the snow is over. It seems as if we have gone quickly form winter storms to spring storms. I would like to remind everyone of our lock down policy for severe weather.

Pickett County Schools will go into lockdown when a tornado warning has been issued two counties away. Students and staff (including office staff) are then moved into the high wind hallways. The entrance doors will be locked at the time of lockdown with no entrance or exit allowed until an all clear is given to the principal or the principal designee.

Our goal with our lockdown policy is to keep all students safe. Should parents/guardians be in our building at the time of the lockdown, they are welcome and encouraged to stay. Please note that office staff is also in lockdown and telephones will not be answered until the all clear has been given.

Junior Pro will begin on March 7th and run until March 29th on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We had a fantastic participation this year with 147 students signing up. Students will receive their shirts and team list hopefully by Friday, March 4th.

The "PEACE Program" will take their first field trip on Saturday, March 5th, to the Cumberland County Playhouse to see Disney's Camp Rock. A reminder to those who signed up, we will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the K-8 Gym Parking Lot and return at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Progress Reports are going home today, March 1st, with report cards due to go home on Monday, March 21st. Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, March 29th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m
