Christmas Lunch

Wednesday is Christmas Lunch for parents of students in grades 3-8. See menu on the right hand side of the blog!

One Size Fits All

Don't forget to check out the K-8 Moms blog called One Size Fits All. It has some interesting posts and links that change almost daily! If you would like to be an author on that blog just send an e-mail to Delilah at gibsond2@k12tn.net or Misty at dowdym1@k12tn.net and we will add you to the group.

Where's My Ornament?

We have two large trees in the front lobby holding all the student created ornaments. I tried to get most of both trees so you could see how creative our families are. (Remember if you click on the picture it will open up in a new larger window on your screen.)

Elisha's Golden Sneaker Award

Elisha Cummings, one of our third grade students, recently received another golden sneaker award for his work with the Juvenile Diabetes Association. He raised more than $3000 with the local walk he holds and other donations. We are very proud of him and the time that he donates to this cause.

Christmas Ornaments

Tomorrow, December 9, is the last day to enter the Annual Christmas Ornament Contest!

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL

If you go to this web site, [ http://www.LetsSayThanks.com ] www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!
It is FREE and it only takes a second.
This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you.
Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to
do. We can never say enough thank you's.

Save Your Pop Tabs!

Mrs. Stephanie Norris is going to start a campaign to collect the pop tabs from aluminium cans. The tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville. Recently Stephanie's nephew, Braxton Wells, has had some health problems and been a patient at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. His family was able to stay at The Ronald McDonald house during this time. Anyone who has had a sick child or family member knows that the stress of the illness is overwhelming, and being in an unfamiliar place far from home doesn't help either. The Ronald McDonald house provides a place to stay and services for the families of sick children. Stephanie wanted to help this amazing place whose volunteers had been kind to her family, so she will be in charge of collecting these tabs and delivering them to Nashville.
If you would like to participate, just save the pop tabs from your cans and bring or send them to the school. Mrs. Norris will do the rest. If you belong to an organization or a church that would like to help, please share this information with them. If you have questions you can e-mail me at gibsond2@k12tn.net or Mrs. Stephanie Norris at norriss2@k12tn.net
Thanks for your help, I know tabs will begin to pour in, because any time we ask our K-8 families for help, you always respond in a big way!!!

Some added info:

Pop Your Top for Families in Need

More than 25 Million Tabs Pay for 40 Family Stays
at the Ronald McDonald House® Each Year
It’s easy to get involved. Simply save your pop tabs from your soda or other cans. Then drop your tabs off at the Pickett County K-8. Tell your neighbors and friends that they should be collecting tabs, too. Remember - it all adds up. Every pop tab you save helps provide services to families at the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville.
Who can participate?
People of all ages can participate in supporting the Ronald McDonald House by collecting pop tabs.
Many schools support this project because it is easy and helps teach valuable math and recycling lessons. Families, churches, service organizations and businesses also participate as a way to show
their support of the Ronald McDonald House and the families we serve.
How do you get started?
It's easy. There is no registration required. Simply remove the pop tab from the aluminum can and put them in your favorite collection container. Where do I drop off my collected pop tabs?
Send your tabs to school with your favorite student and Mrs. Norris will deliver them to the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville.
If possible, please bring your pop tabs in closed boxes, zip lock or sealed bags or closed WIDE-mouth containers. Please avoid gallon milk jugs, water bottles and other narrow-necked containers, as they make the recycling process time-consuming and difficult.

• 1,267 pop tabs = 1 pound of metal
• 71 pounds of recycled pop tabs will house a family for one night at the Ronald McDonald House
• 500 pounds of pop tabs takes care of a family for a week
