21st century grant




21st Century Grant 
(PEACE Program) 

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING: 
The Pickett County K-8 is in the process of applying for another 21st CCCLS and LEAPs grant which is currently providing a before and afterschool program for students at the K-8.  We would like to offer any comments or suggestions to parents, students, staff and community stakeholders.  If you have suggestions as to ideas that might better our after/before school program, please contact Kenny Tompkins at 864.3496 on or before Friday, April 11, 2014.

Ollie the Otter
PreK-4th grade students had a special guest named Ollie the Otter come today to talk to them about safety. Ollie played safety games with the students to remind them to be safe while traveling! Remember, students should be in a booster until they are 9 years old and 4'9"!

Special Visitor

Special visitor for 3rd grade students 
Kelide Bradley, a Cherokee Indian visited 3rd grade students here at Pickett K-8 on Monday. Ms. Bradley shared many legends, stories and artifacts. Ms. Bradley's uncle wrote the story "Yonder Mountain" (the story that the 3rd grade students had studied)! Here are a few pictures from her visit here.

THE SCHOOL BOARD VOTED MONDAY NIGHT TO MAKE UP OUR SNOW DAY ON MARCH 21ST. ON OUR ORIGINAL SCHOOL CALENDAR, THIS WAS A STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY AND STUDENTS WERE NOT TO COME TO SCHOOL. STUDENT WILL COME ON MARCH 21ST AND BUSES WILL RUN @ 12:00 P.M. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR STAFF DEVELOPMENT IN THE AFTERNOON

NEW CHARGING POLICY FOR CAFETERIA
BEGINNING MARCH 10 THERE WILL BE A CHANGE IN THE FOOD CHARGING POLICY. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO CHARGE FOR EXTRAS OR ALA CARTE ITEMS. IF THEY OWE MONEY ON THEIR ACCOUNT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PURCHASE EXTRA ITEMS, ANY MONEY THEY BRING IN MUST FIRST GO TOWARD CHARGES. YOUR CHILD WILL CONTINUE TO BRING HOME CHARGE LETTERS AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DELIVERY OF THESE LETTERS!

"THE GREAT GATSBY"

"THE GREAT GATSBY"
7th & 8th grade students danced the night away on Saturday night at the Byrdstown First Methodist Church. Students were dressed to "The Great Gatsby" theme. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped in anyway to make this night a success!
