Moving On Up. . .

The students have a new climbing wall in the gym. It has been constructed in the hallway behind the bleachers. Miss Rebekah captured some of these fourth graders enjoying it today. The wall was provided by School Coordinated Health. There are 130 different activities students can do on the wall. The colored grips you see are used in the different games. Before they can use the climbing wall, students must turn in a permission slip signed by their parents.

Practicing for TCAP

Just like all the regular classrooms, we've been practicing for TCAP tests in the computer lab. We have two sites that are our favorites. Sara, in the picture above is concentrating on her multiplication tables. The site she is working on is Freerice. It has vocabulary words on different levels and several other subjects such as world capitals and math. The great thing about this site, is that while you are practicing you are also collecting rice to donate to the United Nations World Food Program. For every correct answer you give, ten grains of rice are donated. As you play the rice is collected in a bowl to the right of your screen. We have a contest to see who can collect the most rice in two minutes! I like the warning that comes with this game. It says: This game may make you smarter. It may improve your speaking, writing, thinking, grades, job performance...
Another site filled with games that cover many skills on different grade levels is Funbrain. The students had to give me a little help with the place value of decimals this week--I had forgotten!
This site has a section for teachers and parents that will help you find the games that are appropriate for your child based on age or grade.
Ask your students to show you these sites and play along for some great practice sessions next week. Warning: You may learn something new too!

Egg Decorating Contest

Our annual egg decorating contest was held yesterday and just as always some very creative ideas came from our K-8 families. There are eggs that look like animals, and food and story book characters and people and super heroes and some that are just pretty. There's a bunch of pictures in the post, because I just couldn't pick a few. I am positive the judges had a hard time choosing winners in this contest. I'm not listing the winners, just sharing with you some of the eggs that caught my eye! Enjoy.
