Dustin the Monkey Visits 3rd Graders

One of our third grade classes has a special visitor this week. Dustin the little green monkey is a social studies project who left Connecticut on a journey to visit five different states.  Before arriving in Byrdstown, he visited Hawaii, Arizona, California and Virginia.  While he is here the host student is taking him to visit  area sites and today he visited with people around our school.  Dustin's host keeps a journal and makes photos of the places and people he sees!  We are glad he could stop by the K-8 on his trip.  Dustin is due to arrive back home next week and we hope his owner receives an A+ on his project.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Thursday, March 27 will be parent teacher conferences.  Teachers will be available between 3 and 6 P.M. Be sure to stop by and see the ocean Ms Patti and her art students have created. It is right outside the Art Room door (201).

My favorite boy

My favorite boy hopes everyone had a Happy Easter.
I read in a newspaper article Sunday that Easter will not occur this early again until 2160!  Maybe that will make for warmer egg hunts in the future!!!!

Math @ Home

Picture Day

Just a reminder, spring portraits will be made Wednesday for grades Pre-k through third.  Thursday will be portraits for grades 4-8 and the band students.  Group pictures of each homeroom will also be made. Siblings who wish to have their picture together need to bring a note from a parent. You can see the background by scrolling down the page to an earlier post.

7th Grade Program

Today the seventh graders entertained us with their Crazy 80's program.  The Dukes of Hazzard, Cindi Lauper, the Thriller Dancers and some very unusual looking Uptown Girls were just a few of the characters who showed up!

Yearbook Update

Today, I sent to the publisher the last 16 pages of our yearbook!  The scheduled delivery date is the first week in May, but I am hoping that since I met all the deadlines that it could be printed by mid-late April.
This year's theme is MOMENTS.  The cover is black and yellow.  The cost will be $35.00.
We did not pre-order, I will start selling books when they arrive and there should be plenty for anyone who wishes to purchase a yearbook.

2nd Graders Love Webkinz

Mrs. Norris's second grade class loves their Webkinz.  They are plush pets that come with a secret code that allows the owner to log on to Webkinz  World. On the site the students care for their virtual pets, answer trivia questions, earn KinZCash and play games.  Each student in this second grade class has a webkinz pet they care for.  Second graders are learning to be responsible for providing their pet with food, water and other necessities. (And having fun in the process)  To find out more about Webkinz, go to www.webkinz.com or  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webkinz

About Spring Pictures

(This is the spring background)
Mr. Joel Poston will here Wednesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 27 to make spring pictures. Each homeroom class will also have a group photo. On Wednesday we will take the Pre-k through third graders. Thursday will be grades 4-8, then the band will have a group and individual pictures taken.
If siblings want photos taken together, they need to have a note from a parent.

What Goes On Here

Welcome to the computer lab at Pickett County K-8.  Weekly classes for grades 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are held here.  During class time we usually do a keyboarding exercise, have a writing assignment and some free time to explore and play.  Check out our blog to see what we are currently up to, read some of our work and look at some pictures we have taken.
