I Don't Understand
by David Parris, sixth grade
I don't understand
why mom is always right
Why we sleep at nigh
why bugs bite
But most of all
why school lasts for 7 hours
why calves get scours
why there are not more cellular towers
What I understand is
why money is tight
why girls fight
why dogs bite
Performance
by Brooklyn Gibson, seventh grade
The lights brighten
The music starts
I'm up on my tiptoes
As I twirl and spin
I jump to leap
From side to side
While letting the music move me
I raise up in point
Then down to plie
Performing what I've practiced
Every single day
When I am dancing
The world disappears
My troubles float away
For just one moment
I am truly at peace
The Gavel
by Gavin Vitatoe, eight grade
Tap, Tap, Tap. . .
A life is taken,
All are forsaken,
The sound of justice falls.
Tap, Tap, Tap. . .
A guilty man,
They cuff his hands,
The sound of justice falls.
Tap, Tap, Tap. . .
A mother cries,
While another prays.
The sound of justice falls.
Tap, Tap, Tap. . .
He's led away,
On his darkest day.
The sound of justice falls.
Tap, Tap, Tap. . .
