January Newsletter

PICKETT COUNTY K-8

JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a good Christmas Break and snow day. The 2nd nine weeks will end on Friday, January 6th. Report cards will go home on Wednesday, January 11th.

The Band Concert and supper will be Friday, January 6th at 6:00 p.m.. The supper will be in the cafeteria with the concert following in the gym.

The 7th and 8th grade Winter Ball is scheduled for Friday, January 13th from 6 till 10. We have scheduled it to be in the new Ag. Pavilion. Parents will be decorating and helping teachers get it together this year. If you would like to help, please let us know. Teachers will be chaperoning the dance.

I am sure many of you have heard about the new teacher evaluation that we started this school year. Teachers are rated on a 1-5 scale with 1 being least effective and 5 being most effective. The school itself also gets an overall rating that takes into account all testing data combined and gives the school a 1-5 score as well. We are very pleased to let everyone know that based on last year’s data, Pickett County K-8 received an overall effectiveness rating of 5.

We will be sending home the Computers for Education magazine booklets Monday, January 9th. Please take the time to fill out the booklets with addresses. The K-8 will receive $5.50 for every completed booklet. There is no purchase required for us to receive the money. We have approximately 550 students and if each student filled their booklet out, the K-8 would receive approximately $3,000.00. There will be incentive prizes for students who turn in completed booklets.
