October Newsletter

PICKETT COUNTY K-8

OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,

Wow! The support we have received has been AWESOME in our U.S. Cellular contest. I want to thank everyone who has worked to help our school win. We do not know when we will find out the winners, but I will let everyone know as soon as we are contacted.

I also want to thank everyone who participated in our cookie dough fundraiser. The K-8 received approximately $7,400.00 in much needed funds to help pay for day-to-day supplies in our school.

There is a new state law that I want to make everyone aware of. It is Public Chapter No. 351. It states the following: Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, a student in the third grade shall not be promoted to the next grade level unless the student has shown a basic understanding of curriculum and ability to perform the skills required in the subject of reading as demonstrated by the student’s grades or standardized test results, However, such student may be promoted if the student participates in an LEA approved research-based intervention prior to the beginning of the next school year. This section shall not apply to students who have IEPs pursuant to 20 U.S. C. 1400 et seq.
