May Newsletter

PICKETT COUNTY K-8 MAY NEWSLETTER
Dear Families,
We are quickly coming to the end of another school year. May is as
always busy, busy, busy. The following are important dates to
remember:
May 3rd—7th grade trip to Roane State in Harriman—leave
at 8:00 a.m. and return at 2:45 p.m.
May 4th—5th grade Soil Conservation Day at Fairgrounds
May 6th—alternate date for 5th grade Soil Cons. Day if rain
May 6th—Kindergarten Zoo Trip-Knoxville-leave at 8:00 a.m.
return at 6:00 p.m.
May 7th—The Standards perform in K-8 Gym at 10:00 a.m.,
with a performance at 7:00 p.m. for the public in K-8
gym.
May 7th—Pre-K trip to Livingston
May 7th—K-8 goes at 1:00 p.m. to the High School for High
School plays
May 10th—4-H day for grades 4-6 at Methodist Church.
Leave school at 8:45 a.m. and return at 1:45 p.m.
May 10th—Music program by Mr. Aldrige’s music classes
in grades K-3 and 5th & 7th grade band members
at 2:00 p.m. in K-8 gym.
May 11th—7th grade field trip to Jamestown.
May 11th—4-H Demonstration Day at Cookeville—leave at
8:00 a.m. and return at 2:45 p.m.
May 12th—2nd grade field trip to Celina.
May 12th—Ollie The Otter Program for grades Pre-K through
3rd at 9:00 a.m. in K-8 gym.
May 13th—5th grade field trip to Jamestown.
May 13th—2nd grade TNACHE parent/student dinner at 6:00
p.m. in K-8 cafeteria.
May 13th—Last afternoon for PEACE Program.
May 14th-4th grade trip
May 14th—7th & 8th grade Luau—6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. in K-8
cafeteria
May 17 & 18—Achievement Days
May 19th—Academic Achievement Day in the morning with
TCAP celebration in the afternoon.
May 20th—Kindergarten Graduation—7:00 p.m. in K-8 Gym.
May 21st—FCA field trip to Cookeville
May 21, 24, 25—Pre-K and Kindergarten registration.
May 22nd—PEACE Program trip to Tennessee Aquarium in
Chattanooga. Leave at 8:00 a.m. and return at
6:00 p.m.
May 22nd—Band Concert—7:00 p.m. at The Good Neighbor’s
Theater
May 26th—Health Fair for grades 4-8 in K-8 gym.
May 26 & 27—Next year’s Kindergarten class visit.
May 28th—Administration Day (no students)
May 28th—8th grade Graduation—7:00 p.m.
May 29th—Last day of school. Pick up grade cards in K-8
Gym. Dismiss at 9:00 a.m.
We will try to send out updates if things change or are added to this
list.
During the week of May 10-14, we will be celebrating life on the farm
here at the K-8. There have been some specific activities and
contests planned. Those activities and contests include:
Monday, May 10th—farm photo contest
Tuesday, May 11th—egg hunt—(students do not bring eggs)
Wednesday, May 12th—The Family Farm Project displays
Friday, May 14th—dress like a farmer day.
We invite parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and all kinfolk and friends to come by the K-8 on Friday, May 14th to view photos, projects, and artwork related to “Down On the Farm Days”.
