Today a representative from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation met with the students in each grade level. She did a simulation that showed how people with diabetes have to endure the uncomfortable process of checking their blood sugar or taking an injection several times a day. Some students had a story about a child who deals with diabetes and older students watched a video that explained how to make healthy choices that might help prevent diabetes.
Each student will receive an envelope encouraging them to raise some funds to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for this disease. The funds students collect here will be given to the Elisha Cummings Walk held at Pickett County K-8 on Saturday, October 4 . Ten percent of the funds will go to the school for athletic equipment. Elisha donates all the funds raised by his walk to this cause when he participates in the annual JDRF Walk in Nashville.
