Sampler Quilts
Students in Miss Cross's 5th grade library classes have been studying quilts. They made their own sampler quilts, by creating cloth squares with individual patterns and the using ribbons to put them together. Their display in the hall explains how our grandparents used any materials they could find, such as flour sacks or discarded clothing to make quilts. So you see, our grandparents were "green" long before it was fashionable!
Miss Cross also has on display in the library this quilt made by her mother about 50 years ago.
Many of the 5th graders consulted their own mothers and grandmothers when they were deciding which pattern to use in their sampler quilts.
