Meet Teddy T. Bear

This is Teddy T. Bear. To help us promote Teddy Bear Days (9-9--9-12) Teddy is going home with students to spend the night. He travels with a blanky and a journal. Students and their families write in the journal about what they did together. Some people have included photos. We want him to visit as many homes as possible, so if you would like to keep Teddy overnight or over the week-end just e-mail me (gibsond2@k12tn.net) and we will arrange for a visit.
Here are some photos from last night's visits:

If you will log on to Miss Misty Dowdy's reading room blog you will be able to read about the experience their family had with Teddy T. Bear!

Are you a Technology Immigrant or Native?

Today at lunch I was talking with some fellow educators about how some of us older people are technology immigrants--we adapted to technology as it became available. (I remember when having a color TV was a big deal). Our students are technology natives they were born into a world filled with technology. They are not afraid to use it and accept it as a way of life. I used this story from my family's blog to illustrate the point, so indulge me while I share a grandma story!

Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails. . .

Yesterday while Parker was playing in his Elmo sprinkler, he found a toad.

He picked it up and examined the poor thing and it make a little chirping noise, maybe because it was terrified and maybe because it was being held a little tight, but Parker must have thought it was a cell phone because. . .
He answered it!
Hello!
No toads were harmed during the photo session that led to this post!

Teddy Bear Days

The week of September 9th (Tues.) through Sept 12th (Friday) we will be celebrating Teddy Bear Days. There will be information and BIG clues posted in the halls. Questions will be asked over the intercom and prizes will be awarded. The winners will be drawn from all the correct answers turned in at the office. There will be a special area to enter your answer (don't forget your name and grade).
We will be having a Teddy Bear coloring contest and on Friday you can bring your Teddy to school to be displayed in the library. Be sure and tie a name tag around the neck of your Teddy Bear so everyone can see who each bear belongs to.
At this time this is all the info that Miss Alice (chairperson of fun) can tell us. Breaking news will be blogged as events develop!

I am so tired. . . .

It was a big day in kindergarten, the first day all the classmates had been together, but a big comfy chair in the library at story time was just too much!

Mrs. Elizabeth's Science Room

I wanted you to see Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson's 5/6 Science Room. She spent a lot of time getting it in shape for the year. Her mom was the artist who did the great drawings and paintings that you see. (We all need a little help from our moms, no matter how old we get!) It looks great! Thanks, Mrs. Elizabeth, for making our school a pleasant place to be! They also have a new pet in the room that I will feature in a later blog!

Handbooks

Today, Mrs. Garrett, gave handbooks to grades 3-8. She discussed the highlights with each group. Inside the front cover you will find a page that needs to be signed and returned to school. Please review the handbook with your child and be familiar with the rules and procedures.
Students in grades K-2 will receive their handbooks on Monday and their classroom teachers will explain them.
If you have questions the front cover contains information for contacting the school by e-mail and phone.
