Celebrating Dr. Suess

Wednesday, March 2nd, is Dr. Suess' birthday. In honor of that many classrooms here at Pickett Co. K-8 will be celebrating the day by reading Dr. Suess books and enjoying many other activities. If you would like to see additional activities you can do at home you can visit the NEA's Read Across America website Suessville. And as you can tell some classrooms are already preparing for the big day...

Spring Break Not Interrupted

from the "Pickett County Press" (Feb. 24th)...

"Pickett County students and teachers have one more day to make up from the snow days that went over the limit. On Monday, Feb. 21st school was originally scheduled to be closed in observance of Presidents' Day, but in order to get in a makeup day, school was in session. This left one day and was decided to add an extra day on at the end of the year, which kept Spring Break to still be as planned during the week of April 18th - 22nd."

Pizza Party

Mrs. Shelia Jolly's 4th grade class enjoyed a pizza party this afternoon for being the winners in the Twin Lakes phone book collection. They collected a total of 72 books, and really enjoyed their party!

7th & 8th Grade Spelling Bees

Today the 7th and 8th graders participated in Spelling Bees during their Reading class. Each class got to play a couple of times and I was quite impressed with what I heard!! Great job guys.

Jr. Pro Basketball Sign-ups

Sign-ups: February 14th - February 21st

Parents,
The Junior Pro Basketball Program at Pickett County K-8 will be starting in March. The program will be open to students in grades 1-6. If your child is interested in playing this year, please fill out the registration form at the K-8 by 3pm on Monday, February 21, 2011. The registration cost will be $15. No applications will be accepted after this date. Also, if you would like to look at the t-shirt samples before ordering the size, please come by the K-8 office. Any questions please call Pickett County K-8 office at 864-3496.

Pickett County School Board Policy states that anyone participating in school sponsored events must provide proof of Health Insurance.

Extra forms may be picked up in the office from Mrs. Sondra!

Valentine's Day....

There was lots of activity taking place today at school. On top of all the Valentine's Day festivities one 3rd grade class had a show and tell. Ethan brought stilts that his dad made and showed us his skills in the hallway. He told me he had been practicing for about 2 years and I must say the practice has paid off, he did an awesome job!!
