Thanksgiving Feast
The Food Network, Paula Dean, Rachel Ray nor Bobby Flay can compete with the hard working lunch ladies of Pickett County K-8, because yesterday they fed approximately 875 people a delicious Thanksgiving meal. It's been a tradition as long as anyone can remember, that we invite students' family members to eat a Thanksgiving or Christmas lunch here in our cafeteria.
Our cooks were at work that morning before daylight and for your information here's just a few of the things they prepared:
36 turkeys
8 hams
17 pans of dressing
900 rolls
976 yams
So I would like to say THANKS to Marcia, Janice, Patty, Lori, Bloss and Janet for keeping everyone fed--everyday!
In just two weeks, December 9 to be exact, they are going to prepare their next feast--Christmas Lunch and feed the masses again!

Word of the Day
This is a word from Mr. Hill's vocabulary handouts! (Funny how I can remember this word from 1974 but I can't remember yesterday! I guess I am not impeccable.)
Definitions courtesy of www.m-w.com
IMPECCABLE
1 not capable of sinning or liable to sin
Collecting
Don't forget we are collecting food for the annual food drive. Two more items we are gathering up are old phone books and tabs from your soda cans. The phone company is rewarding us for helping them collect old phone books for recycling and Miss Robin's third graders collect tabs from aluminum cans to help the Ronald McDonald House. If you want to help just sent these two things our way!

K-8 Food Drive
The Pickett County K-8 will be hosting their annual food drive during the month of November. We are collecting non-perishable food items that will be used to help those in need in Pickett County during the holidays.
The grade that brings in the most canned items will be rewarded with a popcorn and movie day.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nicola Smith in the Family Resource Center at 864-6940.
Thank you fro helping teach our children the rewards of giving to those in need.

Word of the Day
I have a keyboarding class with 8th graders on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. After we complete our lesson each day we learn a new word. The students open the Merriam-Webster dictionary site (www.m-w.com) and I spell the day's word for them. The site gives us all the dictionary information plus pronounces the word for us.
Where do I get the words? Those of you are are like me and older than dirt, can remember that our high school English teacher, Mr. Hill had a weekly vocabulary list that he tested us over every Friday. Some of the words I remember from his lists, others just pop up. I ran into this word when I was reading a picture book to first graders, proving it is not a very good idea to read a book to a group without previewing it! I did not know how to pronounce the word!
And the word is:
The sounds of barking dogs and sirens added to the cacophony on the streets.
You will have to visit m-w.com to get the correct pronunciation.
