Friday Faces

Here's some of the cutest Friday Faces!

And My Personal Favorite!
A girl who is glad it's Friday

She was just clowning around making faces, she is really a very, very cute Friday Face!

Keyton Helps Fellow Second Graders

Keyton Dowdy, on the right, presented Mrs. Stephanie Norris and her second grade class with all the pull tabs he had saved this summer. Keyton encouraged his family and friends to collect the tabs for his fellow second graders. The tabs are donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville. The Ronald McDonald House allows the families of sick children who are far away from home to have a place to stay and be together out of the hospital environment.
After they poured Keyton's tabs into their collection jar it appeared that he had saved about 1/2 gallon this summer. Keyton and his family are continuing to save the tabs and they hope you join in and bring them to Mrs. Stephanie Norris's second grade class in Room 206.

Picture Report

Pictures went as smooth as silk this year! Everyone was ready, dressed well and very few were absent. But, best of all, the students were very well behaved and cooperative during picture taking. The proofs should be back in about two weeks.
We have set September 15 as the date for retakes. Retakes are for those who were absent or if you have a facial expression you just can't live with! The eighth graders will have a candid photo, outside on the playground on this date.
We thank Mr. Joel Poston, our school photographer, for taking his time and making us all look great!

New Science Blog

There's a new blog in town. Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson's 5-6th grade science classes have added themselves to our list of bloggers. Check them out here.
They are also in our blog list to the right.

Tomorrow, Thursday, is picture day for grades four through eight. The backdrop is gray and solid colored clothing looks best. This is the photo for the yearbook. Click here for more details.

Anyone who was absent in grades pre-k through 3 can get their photo taken Thursday.
Siblings must have a note or have sent an e-mail to Miss Delilah(gibsond2@k12tn.net) to get a photo together.

If You Give Mrs. Kim a Camera (continued). . .

Here's some fourth grade playground fun Mrs. Kim caught with the camera this week! Thanks Mrs. Kim for helping out, don't know what I would do without you!

Hat Parade

Mrs. Kim Stockton's first graders read a story about hats today and decided to design a hat of their own! They liked their creations so much the class went on a hat parade and shared their work with anyone who passed by them in the hall! Good job first graders, thanks for stopping by the computer lab to share.

FYI

The background for the school portraits is gray.

Mr. Tompkins's August Newsletter

AUGUST NEWSLETTER

WELCOME BACK! We hope everyone had a great summer break. We have four new teachers and they are:

Ms. Leah Amonett is teaching 2nd grade.

Ms. Emily Bilbrey is teaching 5th and 6th grade math, reading,

and language arts.

Ms. Sally Pendergrass is teaching 1st grade.

Ms. Mindy Sidwell is teaching 1st grade.

We had two teachers to change positions:

Ms. Julia Barber went from 1st grade to 3rd grade.

Ms. Jamie Evans went from 1st grade to 2nd grade.

We have three new educational assistants:

Ms. Faith Reagan is working in grades 5-8.

Ms. Kathy Vitatoe is working in grades 5-8.

Ms. Danielle Sells is working in kindergarten.

Student/Parent Handbooks will be passed out during the 1st full week of school. A few changes to look for are the following: the new cell phone policy, the new textbook replacement policy, and the severe weather lockdown procedures. Please read through the Handbook with your child/children and return the designated parent/student signed sheet to school.

The State Curriculum Standards have changed for the 2009-2010 academic school year. Therefore, you may notice some changes in your child’s/children’s schoolwork. Teachers have spent a considerable amount of time over the summer getting prepared for changes the new standards have brought. It is extremely important that students are not absent unless absolutely necessary. Those who would like to view the State Curriculum Standards can do so on the Tennessee Department of Education Website at www.state.tn.us/education/ and click on Educators/Administrators then click on Curriculum/Standards.

Kenny Tompkins, Principal
